土耳其的面積為780,578平方公里。以伊斯坦堡海峽 (Istanbul Bogazi，或簡稱「博阿茲」，即博斯普魯斯海峽) 將土耳其的歐洲和亞洲部分分開。土耳其的氣候因地區不同而有所不同，可分為黑海性氣候的黑海沿岸、大陸性氣候的內陸、地中海性氣候的愛琴海和地中海沿岸部。四面環海的土耳其海岸線長達八千公里。

古詩人荷馬筆下所記載之木馬屠城記的歷史遺址★特洛伊，憑弔一段流傳千古、可歌可泣的史蹟，抵達後您可參觀巨型仿古模型木馬，漫步於古城廢墟中。

土耳其的人口是70,000,000人。35%的人口居住在農村。主要城市的人口是：伊斯坦堡 Istanbul（920萬人），首都安卡拉 Ankara (368萬人)土耳其的語言屬於阿爾泰語系，與芬蘭-匈牙利語系相類似。土耳其語用拉丁文字書寫，在全世界為一億五千萬人所使用。

古希臘文化時期遺蹟聞名的★白加孟，由德籍工程師KARL HUMANN無意中發現之宏偉古蹟，歷史溯自西元前二世紀，遺蹟規模很大，在高聳的衛城上有大圓形劇場、神殿、圖書館等等。

土耳其有宏偉的歷史，前後十三個不同文明的歷史遺產。探訪土耳其的游客即使短暫的時間之內也會觸及到這偉大的昔日遺產。土耳其被稱為“文明的搖籃”。依據所繼承的各世代文化遺產，土耳其成為具有豐富歷史資料和文化的國家。古代遺址和文物散布於土耳其各地，顯示著各自的文化特點。土耳其的近代史也很有趣的。鄂圖曼帝國衰退後，身為軍官且有遠大眼光的青年穆斯塔法‧凱末爾，在第一次世界大戰中敗北之際，從外國侵略者的手中爭取了土耳其的自由。穆斯塔法‧凱末爾‧阿塔土克於1923年10月29日建立了土耳其共和國，以和平與安定為基礎，實現了經濟發展，促進土耳其的現代化。

土耳其最具觀光價值的★艾菲索斯古城，這裡曾是希臘化時期最重要也是最大城市，擁有世界十大古蹟之美譽，內有大理石所建的道路，古時人們進行商業活動的市場與圖書館、古羅馬浴池遺蹟及露天劇場等，整座古城宏偉之規模遠超過義大利龐貝古城。

近年來，土耳其已成為歐洲的主要觀光地。在土耳其的經濟中，農業佔有重要地位。主要農作物是，小麥、米、棉花、煙草、榛子、果子。羊是主要的家畜、土耳其是世界少數棉及羊毛制品的產地。天然資源：主要的礦物是煤炭、鉻（主要的出口貨）、鐵、銅、鋁礬土、大理石、硫黃。工業︰工業在急速地發展，主要的以農業制品、冶金、縴維、汽車和農場機器的生產為目標。

A Trip to Turkey by David W. S. Liu (August 5 to August 16, 2006)

During the ghost month plant shut-down period of time, I take annual leave for a 12-day journey to Turkey . There is no direct flight from Taiwan ; we take Singapore Airline via Dubai to Istanbul , Turkey .

Turkey locates at Southeastern Europe and Southwestern Asia, about 780,000 square km or 22 times of Taiwan . Climate is hot dry summers with cold wet winters. Population is 70 million and 99% are Muslim. GDP per capita is $8,200 from website of CIA the world factbook while the local tour guide Mr. Yavuz told me $5,600 per person. Inflation is high, agriculture products are tobacco, cotton, grain, olives, and livestock; with industries of textiles, food processing, autos, electronic and mining.

The modern Turkey was founded in 1923 by national hero Kemal, who was honored with the title Ataturk or "Father of the Turks". Turkey joined the UN in 1945 and in 1952 became a member of NATO. In 1964, Turkey became an associate member of the European Community; over the past decade, it has undertaken many reforms to strengthen its demoracy and economy, enabling it to begin accession membership talks with the European Union.

土耳其境內最具盛名的度假勝地-波德蘭，愛琴海岸與地中海岸的分界點，也是全土耳其年輕人最愛的不夜城─波德蘭，晚上我們會在這裡見識到土耳其沿海所有城市中最熱鬧瘋狂的夜生活。

Our journey started from west coast Aegean Sea, visited ancient historical spots Troy , Bergama , Ephesus , to Mediterranean Sea Bodrum and Pamukkale. From central Konya , Cappadocia, capital city Ankara to Istanbul . A long journey with driving distance of more than 3,000 kilometers.

參觀★波德蘭城堡，古時為聖彼得城堡，為聖約翰武士團所建之十字軍古堡，現為一陳列海底考古所發掘之地中海文明遺物之博物館。

After 10-days travel in Turkey , my personal impressions of Turkey are listed as follows:

Summer in Turkey is very hot and last for 4 months; spring (1 month only) and fall (another one month only) are not obvious and winter is very cold for 6 months. Similar to north European countries, most hotels and restaurants do not have air-conditioners or do not turn on air-con. While I was at Ankara at the noon time, I was suffered a sun-stoke; like catch cold feel very uncomfortable.

Turkish people have a very strong affection of their country, you can see Turkish national flag every where; very patriotic and they are very proud of their country.
1. 70 million population and 99% are Muslim. To see is to believe; it is surprise to see so many mosques in Istanbul . But quite different from Arabian Muslim countries, the religion and politics in Turkey are separated. And not like Arabian Muslim allow have 4 wives legally; Turkey obey one husband one wife system. Of course, as a Muslim, they do not eat pork because in their saying pork is difficult to preserve under hot weather as well as pig eat left-over not like sheep, cattle eat grass only.
2. One thing I don't like is deals are highly relied on price negotiation, the souvenir price quoted in the shop can be ranged from 1 Turkish lira to 5, 6 lira for the same thing (10 times for the same item in the Istanbul international airport). Even I stayed at World Park Hotel (5-star hotel in Istanbul), the first day I checked with the counter NO mail service but they can mail the postcard for me with 1.5 lira per card; the second day morning, the duty manager told me US$2 (or 2.8 lira) per card. Eventually I mailed at airport post office with 0.8 lira postage. I bought a very nice carpet, the sticker price is US$4,900, the shop manager offered from $3,500 (1^st offer) to $3,000 (2^nd offer) to $2,800 (3^rd offer) to final transaction price of $2,450 or 50% discount. You probably do not know that Turkey is one of the cotton and sheep products manufacturers in the world. Price at US$1,500, very fine quality new European fashion design, started with 20% discount, …50% discount, 55% discount and final buy at 60% discount I also bought 2 leather jackets.

Turkish bath is a very special experience for me. This is the first time for someone else to take bath for me, one brush your body and other one doing the message. Only one hour for tourist while local people might take 2 or 3 hours for a Turkish bath.

Turkey tried to join European Union for a long time. The major reason not having been accepted by EU is with 70 million population and almost 20% unemployment rate, European countries afraid a lot of Turkey people might migrate to Germany , Austria , … for higher income jobs and creates employment problem for other countries.
People over there are very friendly, I took a lot of pictures of them and often time they also ask to take picture of me or take picture with me as well. Most of tourists are from European countries ( Istanbul is just like another European city) and tourists from Asia ( Japan , Korea and Taiwan ) and I didn't see American tourist group during my trip over there.

愛神眷顧的古城市-★阿普洛迪希亞，在土耳其眾多古蹟中是保護較好的一處，此古城的歷史可追溯到西元前3000年的銅器時代，當時愛與美的女神-阿普洛迪強力守護這座城市之故，因此本城也以她的名字來命名。
