Drive for Result
當我決定做一件事情，不管是工作、教書還是休閒，不管是一件工作，一堂課，一場演講，一次旅遊或一次攝影，我總是能事半功倍，很有效益，自己覺得做得很好，很有條理，也很有成就感。有些朋友問我，以前在外商公司上班，工作忙碌，怎麼還會有時間在大學教書？ 怎麼能夠經常出國旅遊？怎麼還有時間作演講、寫文章？‥‥‥？？？在外商公司，公私分明。我週一到週五 full-time 在工作上，週末週日則屬於我自己的時間。在台北大學以前只教三個學分，一個星期只教3個小時，現在則教六個學分，可以勝任愉快。我每年有二十多天年假，我會在寒暑假時安排 2到 3次出國旅遊。工作的時候，努力工作，休息的時候，充分休息。生活自然會比較充實，游刃有餘。
我在演講後或接受記者採訪時，往往被問到一個問題，
「David, how can you make it? 你是怎麼做到的？」
在5月28日接受 經理人月刊副總編輯 鄭 君 仲 先生專訪，6月4日應 周明奇 教授之邀到 國立中山大學 演講時，我分別以下列三個字送給大家，
I would like to take this opportunity to give you “3 words” which will be also useful to you as well. That is “Determination, Persistence and Drive for Results” and they are the way to be successful.
1．首先是 Determination 決心：先給自己一個目標，Objective目標是努的方向，Strategy 策略是達成目標的方法和手段。有了目標，有了努力的方向，下定決心去做是成功的第一步。
2．然後是 Persistence 毅力：有了努力的方向，要持續不斷的做下去；要有恒心，有毅力，努力不懈。
3．最後要 Drive for Result 做出成果，做出成績來：如果沒有做出成果，一切還是徒然 in vain，所以一定要做出結果，做出成績來才有用。
以我去年出書為例，Step 1. 我決定 determination 從管理學的角度寫一本對大家都很實用，很有幫助的「個人管理」的書 (objective)，我先後已經寫了「個人生涯規劃」，「個人健康管理」，「個人投資理財」，「個人溝通管理」，「改善個人人際關係」等文章。一篇文章約 4,000 字，大約要 25篇文章10萬個字，就可以編輯成書 (strategy)。我利用假日，在沒有催稿壓力下，兩個禮拜寫一篇，大概一年多時間可以完成一本書 (when & how)。Step 2. persistence要有恒心，要有毅力，我決定了後，就持續不斷的做下去，一直到做出一點成績來。Step 3. drive for result，一年後，書在預期情況下完成了，有了結果；如果我三天打漁，兩天曬網，我是永遠也無法完成的。
In the past 5 years, I have made more than 100 speeches. Currently I have more than 30 speech topics on hand, I plan to build-up my speech subject to 100 topics which covers marketing & sales, finance management, strategic planning, communication, innovation, personnel management, … etc. I am working on it and I firmly believe that I cam make it.
